The special job of the acolyte or altar server is to help the other ministers, particularly the priests and deacons. Altar servers are scheduled for the weekday 8:15 and 12:10 Masses and weekend Saturday and Sunday Masses. Depending on the number of active servers, a student might be called upon to serve between 2 and 5 times a month. As young servers mature, they are given the option of learning to serve at weddings, funerals, and other special church events. Parents interested in enrolling their child in the altar server program need to be aware that altar serving is a real job. it is also a wonderful spiritual experience that can greatly enhance a young person's Catholic faith. We ask that parents seriously consider the maturity, behavior, and availability of the child before making a significant commitment for him/her to become an altar server.
Interested students in 4th through 12th grade are provided with four training sessions during the second half of the school year. A limited number of training sessions can also be scheduled during the summer months by appointment. All students receive detailed written instructions along with opportunities for hands-on practice. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged.
